And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.” (Deut. 8:3 KJV)
The creation of Man was not by his (Man’s) choice. Man did not choose to make himself. The notice of this truth clearly implicates every of Man’s aggrandizing attempts of self-affirmation to being something or of somewhat importance than attributable. Man is a creation designed and developed by God. We are God’s creation and not of we ourselves. Psalm 100:4 puts it thus “Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. “(Psalm 100:3 KJV). The acknowledgement of this truth and its understanding will gladly afford Man the genuine appreciation for God and the accompanying need for reverence, deference and obeisance to God including Man’s attending and necessary dependence on Him…we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
When Israel was brought out of Egypt, it was God that brought Israel out; they otherwise had no means to have come out of Egypt; God led them through the dangerous and treacherous wilderness during which they learned to depend on Him. It was during this great adventure through the vast mast of uncharted territory that God made the prodigious assertion… that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.”
God revealed an important truth in this assertion. He posted the notice of mode and method of Man’s sustenance as being not… by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD. This notice is the basis for the most urgent and important adjustment every Man must make and accomplish in our respective lives.
Man, already understood his need for bread, Man wakes up early, goes to bread late, pursues trophies, and laurels, competes studiously to gain notice and acknowledgement, we pride ourselves in the feat and accomplishment of new record and standard; Man has truly pushed and extended the frontier of tech and development, but all these are still in the bread domain of Man’s designed terrace. Despite Man’s growth and advancement for bread, Man is (sorry to say) despicably and shamefully untutored and uncultured in the work of righteousness which is the basis and thread of all that constitute God, His kingdom and government. The Bible says about God and His Kingdom, “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 14:17 KJV). It is about this other than bread aspect of Man’s sustenance that God is urgently concerned.
Beloved, we must reorder and reorganize our pursuit to gain notice and respect for every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD for according to our maker, it is doth man live. Let us awake early and go to bed late, etc. to every WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD that we may learn and live by the righteousness that is of God. Amen.
