And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. (Matt. 17:2 KJV)
Light is some clothing, a suit, covering or out layer of a Christian. It is the radiant emission from the internal and glowing nature, make up and character of a Believer, as the Bible says of a Believer, “Ye are Light…” (Eph. 5:8 KJV). It is good and profitable for every believer to gain the notice of this truth and appropriate, apposite and apply its benefit.
About our calling, the Bible affirms, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” (1 Peter 2:9 KJV). In Jesus Christ, it is into Light that we are called, it is Light we are to become. This is a great contemplation for every true believer.
About the natural man, the contraption from which we were extracted (as Christians) to the saving of our soul, the Bible says, “For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [live as those who are native-born to the Light]” (Eph. 5:8 AMP). Notice, prior to becoming a Christian, we were not only in darkness, we (as every natural, unregenerated person for that matter) were in fact darkness. The clothing, suit, covering or out layer of a natural man is darkness, with no emission of color or grace. But thank God we were redeemed from darkness by the sent LIGHT from on High (Luke 1:78-79 KJV).
The Kingdom to which we are called and translocated is the Kingdom of Light of which the Bible says, “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:” (Col. 1:12-13 KJV) It is this Kingdom that Jesus was manifesting when He was transfigured before the disciples on that mountain now ascribed mount of transfiguration.
Beloved, the transfiguration was not intended to mark or identify the mountain upon which Jesus was transformed, rather the true intent was to manifest or identify what a Believer in Christ really is: a Light; as his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. (Matt. 17:2 KJV). This is the portrait and description of every believer. We cannot be less. This must be our true and earnest striving to conform to the same image now revealed.
