But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel; (Phil. 1:12 KJV)
The furtherance of a course, plan, or agenda is that action or activity that advances, helps, and/or promotes its actualization. It is the motion that drives the course to its reality. As such, intentional efforts, impetus, incentives, stimuli and resources are directed, and course of action deployed to drive a realization of the determined agenda.
When our blessed Lord Jesus Christ was arraigned, tried, condemned, and killed, the whole efforts were designed and determined to hurt and halt God’s salvation plan. The prosecutors found unsavory, the LORD’s “claim” to raise this temple in three days if destroyed.
According to the Bible, “…the Jews said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. (John 2:18-22 KJV)
When, Jesus was crucified, who would had thought that what the rulers, prosecutors, captors and executioners were doing were in effect the furtherance of the gospel; sure the rulers, prosecutors, captors and executioners did not contemplate, anticipate, plan nor bargain for that outcome otherwise, …for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (1 Cor. 2:8 KJV).
Beloved, this is the wisdom that drives the course of your life and my life. It is incomprehensible to Man or any creation for that matter as the naturality of Man or any creation is acutely incompetent to workout a plan where what is apparently and glaringly against is the very same the drives, motivates, a furtherance of the original plan. This is the wisdom at work in us who through Christ are now won unto God. Happy Resurrection Sunday.
