When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: (Luke 11:21 KJV)
The notion, notice and caution to “keep” is replete through the Bible. And giving the intent and extent to which, this notion, notice and caution is directed, we shall do well to keenly observe to preserve that which we must keep.
Beginning from the start; after Man was created, the Bible recorded; “And the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” (Gen. 2:15 KJV). Notice the charge to “dress it and to keep it”; this was the first and direct admonition God will give to Man about what is “committed” to Man. This existence or warrant for a charge as such should and must immediately notify, forewarn, alert, and prepare Man against potential, latent and probable threat against that which is entrust to him.
As was with Adam in Eden; so, it is with you and me in everyone item God would entrust to our respective charge…to dress and Keep it; beginning from the very life God has given to each of us, to marriage, family, fellowship, carrier, ministry, etc. The same charge is recurrent and applicable to all.
As it would turnout with Adam, Eden was lost. Adam could not “keep” Eden as Bible would later reveal; “Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.” (Gen 3: 23-24 KJV). It is hurtful, distasteful, and spiteful to imagine Man would lose precious and glorious Eden. Man became a fugitive, without color or candor. Adam became a shadow of himself, a wanderer and vagrant traveler having to now seek after what was previously lavishly bestowed upon him; in short word: Adam became naked.
Beloved, it is grievous to lose that which is entrusted to one. We shall not know such grieve in Jesus Name.
About losing what is committed to one’s charge, The Lord Jesus identified who is behind the loss or theft of it when He said; “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 KJV). It is about this threat of theft that we must be “sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1 Peter 5:8 KJV). We must not give a place, ground, opportunity, or occasion for the devil to root out, steal or kill that committed to our trust. The Lord preserves us by His Spirit in Jesus Name.
