For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. (Matt. 8:9 KJV)
True authority is derived. This is a cogent and very important notice and concept. The bane, blight, ill, and nuisance of rebellion is performing a task or constituting a process barring authority.
Noting the fact that true authority is derived, Jesus said of himself, “I can of Mine own self do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I seek not Mine own will, but the will of the Father who hath sent Me.” (John 5:30 KJV). This is profoundly instructive and as helpful to everyone citing discipleship or faith of our Lord Jesus Christ (as all Christians do); the captain of our salvation and Head of the Church is a Man under authority; he does nothing of himself or for himself. He does not have a personal agenda, program, motive, plan, or purpose. He is governed, motivated, driven and directed by “…the will of the Father who hath sent” him.
It is important to note and establish that ultimate authority or the source, pre-eminence and premise of Authority is God. Bible puts this thus, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God [granted by His permission and sanction], and those which exist have been put in place by God. Therefore whoever [a]resists [governmental] authority resists the ordinance of God. And those who have resisted it will bring judgment (civil penalty) on themselves.” (Romans 13:1-2 KJV). Everyone under hold true authority must truly be (also) under God’s structured authority. This is what legitimize the warrant and exercise of any or every authority.
On some occasion, Jesus was required to provide proof of his authority when the Bible says, They came again to Jerusalem. And as Jesus was walking in the [courts and porches of the] temple, the [i]chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him, and began saying to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do these things?” (Mark 11:27-28 AMP).
Beloved, it in important and noteworthy that we always validate by whose authority we direct, organize, or/and perform our respective activities individually or corporately. Whosoever does, direct, control, or perform activities “outside” authority derived or derivable from God will eventually be identified illegitimate, illegal, and void. That could come with grave consequences and/or losses.
Like Jesus, we must rely on God; by the directive and guidance of His Word revealed and delivered by God’s Spirit to perform God’s work and fulfill God’s agenda. Be WISE.
