He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” Mark 8:24
It is inconceivable to allude that Jesus would perform a task inaccurately, incomplete or imperfect. The wisdom and competence that attest and accompany all His works are far exceeding to the verification metrics of mortals who themselves are product of His marvel.
About the marvel of God’s works, The Psalmist witnessed, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm 149:13 KJV).The doings of the Lord are marvelous, awesome, excellent, exceptional and wonderful. There is no unfinished, incorrect or incomplete doings of God…notice this Psalmist said, “…marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” We all need to know the content and composition of God’s doings right well. God does His Works fearfully and wonderfully; with zero recourse for recall. That is our God.
It cogent and thoughtful therefore, on our part to pause, meditate, investigate and extrapolate the riches in the context of the question Jesus asked and the response of the blind man about his first vision. Consider this; “He (Jesus) took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” (Mark 8:23). Notice Jesus was upfront and intentional about His question, He knew something was being shown to the (now) “sighted” man and he wanted the man to affirm what is being shown to him; really and evidently. The man replied, “…I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
Beloved, though we (people) are not trees; the picture is illustrative of God’s appraisal metrics of everyman. God evaluates every one of us with the familiar and cultural evaluation we give to trees. Akin to the traits, features and attributes of fruitful tree; so does God evaluates every man’s progress and produce in life, Ministry, career and calling. The fruit (now) being the results we generate for God’s glory and pleasure.
Our Lord Jesus puts this thus; “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful…This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (John 15:1-8 NIV).
God looks to our lives for fruits (results) that honors and pleases Him, otherwise unfruitful trees (persons) are hewn down. Jesus warned, “The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. (Matt.3:10 NIV). How are we (you and I) doing?
