Jesus answered, neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (John 9:2 KJV)
It is traditional, natural, and somewhat consoling or comforting to attribute a cause to an effect. For instance, when some dies, a postmortem, inquest, examination, or autopsy is administered to examine or understand the cause of death. The essence of the examination or autopsy would not in any way administer health or restoration, rather it in some way provide “comfort” to understand the cause of death and perhaps seek to prevent a repeat in others. As far and extreme this example may appear, the essence is to affirm the tendency attribute a cause to an effect. “This is why this has happened.” When Israel lost the war to Ai, the loss, after enquiries of Josuha was attributed to the sin of Achan. (Joshua 7:1-26)
It is not wrong to investigate the cause of an effect; in fact, it is both recommended and commendable especially to make correction, amendment as may be necessary. It is upon this premise that the disciples had asked Jesus; touting, “Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:2 KJV). The response of Jesus was quite uncommon and disappointing. It has not often been considered that someone, or something perceived to be adverse, opposing, or hostile may in fact have the cause to glory God in its effect.
In the case of this blind man, he was born blind and being so for long until he encountered Jesus, that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (John 9:2 KJV)
Beloved, the truth and import is this, God is the harbinger and the proctor for all event in the lives of His Children, His Church and this World, nothing is before or behind God and He is able to organize, control and direct all things… that the works of God should be made manifest. (John 9:2 KJV). Having this understanding therefore must comfort and compel us to release ourselves to the sovereign governance of His grand plan to further his purpose in us and about us. Amen
