And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (Gen. 1:28 KJV)
God made Man to be fruitful. God’s end or purpose in the creation of Man was for Man to be Fruitful. It is this purpose (of being Fruitful) that defines and denotes the true and cherished existence of Man. Gaining and owning the understanding of this grand objective would motivate and provoke every man to pursue and realize the set goal.
It is contextual to gain the notice of the first set of words Man heard at creation; “Be Fruitful…”; these two words must trigger a ring tone in our existence as the primary mission for being made or alive. We have a Mandate (an official order to perform a task), a commission and an assignment to be Fruitful. A mandate to bring forth yield and produce to the delight and pleasure of God who so assigned.
As we live and progress through life, this charge ought to remain central to our reflections, contemplations and adulation as the core and essence of our being here. This is a charge and a mission to pursue and accomplish – Praise the Lord. To pursue and perpetuate this noble call and course, we must understand the importance of the Mandate to God, the process and path to realize the objective.
In God’s giving the Mandate, God desired and designed Man to gain dominion, subdue and replenish the earth; for God said about creating Man, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Gen. 1:26 KJV). To operate in dominion, Man must necessarily be fruitful. Being fruitful confers the means to gain dominance and influence.
This was aptly illustrated by the growth of Israel in Egypt. The Bible says, “And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:” (Exo. 1:7-10 KJV). Being fruitful made Israel “more and mightier” thus becoming a threat to the Egyptians.
