And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses. (Gen. 30:43 KJV)
The Blessing of God is spiritual: it has a spirit nature. It is not static, passive or inert, it has life. It is this life or spiritual nature of Blessing that makes the Blessed person to prosper regardless of whatever the person does. About the spiritual nature of Blessing, the Bible says, “…the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: (1 Peter 1:3 KJV). It is the spiritual nature of Blessing that differentiates between the results of two or more people doing the same work or activity.
We must therefore be endeared to inheriting the Blessing ahead of engaging the task for “The blessing of the Lord brings [true] riches, And He adds no sorrow to it [for it comes as a blessing from God].” (Prov. 10:22 KJV). Notice, the blessing…brings true riches without sorrow unlike hard work (alone) which may be accompanied with sorrow.
The import here is not to assume lazy or lethargic work attitude (claiming a blessing) but to understand that there is a spiritual dimension to being truly rich or successful that hinges on the Blessing of the Lord upon the work done.
In the context of Jacob’s work’s span with his uncle Laban, Jacob said to Laban, “You know how I have worked for you and how your livestock has fared under my care. The little you had before I came has increased greatly, and the LORD has blessed you wherever I have been…” (Gen. 30:29-30 NIV). Laban had been in the Livestock trade before Jacob joined and worked for him but the business fared little; Laban was probably working so hard but sorrow accompanied it bringing about little result. Laban was unsuccessful until the Blessed Man (Jacob) showed up and started managing the business and great result ensued. Laban “… increased greatly, and the LORD has blessed you wherever I have been” Jacob said to his employer. Notice the striking commentary of Jacob, “…and the LORD has blessed you wherever I have been” everything Jacob was doing for Laban was working well and yielding results because of the Blessing of God on Jacob.
Beloved, this is the lot and portion of every child of God, because of God’s eminent blessings, “whatever” a child of God does prosper (understandably a child of God will not do evil or illegal activities) because of the Blessing. A Christian should therefore not be timid, nervous or compromising in Business or Business trend, should not be overtly risk perplexed or paralyzed rather actively optimistic that by the blessing of the Lord, sorrow will not accompany his endeavor rather great results as Jacob, who increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses opting for a new and negotiated opportunity in his trade. The Lord richly BLESS YOU!
