For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. (1 Cor. 3:9 KJV)
You and I are God’s building; a home and place of His dwelling. Paul in his letter to the Corinthian Church and by that letter, referencing everyone (including you and I) who are Saints and the Redeemed said, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (1 Cor. 3:16 KJV) Paul, in the reference Scripture, was highlighting an important notice and information we must bear and realize; the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. This is a great and blessed notice about which we shall do well to assume and realize. The reality of this truth will not leave us mere or ordinary.
Ye are God’s Building. A Building is a structure or edifice designed and developed to be occupied. Notice a Building is both designed and developed to be occupied. This is both urgent and cogent for our contemplation and application. We must apply ourselves to this grand plan. God designed you and I to be His dwelling and we must therefore be so developed that God may have a dwelling in us. God said, “Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And the heathen shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.”
About the nature of God’s dwelling, the Bible says, “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; (Act 17:25 KJV). We must therefore not construe God’s Building as to mean a Building of Brick and mortal but rather prepare Him a place in our hearts and Being for He said, “My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways”. (Proverbs 23:26 KJV) This is the key and keen place of God’s dwelling. He desires to dwell within you and I. The Bible further says, “…God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people” (2 Cor. 6:16 KJV). We must gain this notice and thereby have God in our midst. Praise the Lord.
The blessedness and glory of God dwelling in our lives is described in the content of God’s city recorded in the Bible book of Revelation. In that Book, the City of God was described and the lifestyle of people amid whom God lives. About that City the Bible says, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (Rev. 21:3-4 KJV)
When God lives within us, in the City of His dwelling, all tears, stagnation (death), sorrow, crying, pain…are passed away. We shall rather have righteousness, peace and joy that accompany the City of God. We shall lie down and not be afraid and our sleep shall be sweet.
Bible says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”. (Col. 3:16 KJV). God dwells in us when His Words dwell in us by His Spirit. Make Him room.
