Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. (Psalm 147:5 KJV)
Power is the capability to exercise control or influence on people or event. It is wedging means to determine or direct an outcome. It is the privileged ability to have things done to one’s intent and content. Power is sovereignty.
Power is a powerful tool which when correctly organized and utilized can deliver immense good and benefits. It could also be destructive and devastating when possessed or utilized by unscrupulous agents. About Power, it’s utilization and consequence, the Bible says; “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” (Prov. 29:2 KJV). This verse clearly emphasizes the utility of Power and its attending consequence or outcome. When Power is exercised by righteous, godly or God-fearing agents, there is relief, quietness and goodness; the people rejoice but the converse is the outcome when the wicked seizes power. It is this consequence of power utilization that warrants everyone’s responsibility to adjudicate who must bear power over his/her life or domain. The important note here is that Power exerts control on people. In an uncanny twist, we (each) get to choose who directs or exerts control over our lives and courses in life.
The natural ruler of the World we live-in is the wicked one. The Bible says of him, “… the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (2 Cor. 4:4 KJV). Notice, the discrepant adjudication of the god of this world to the magnificent benevolence of the glorious gospel of Christ; one being of blindness and the other being of enlightenment. It is to this important end that we must pursue to verify and validate who exercises power over us.
The Bible described the story of a certain man in John 5:1-9, who under the power of god of this world had been slain and laid by an infirmity for thirty-eight years. This is the nature of pain inflicted by the wicked one when he holds sway over a man’s life by which the people mourn. Mourning is the song in the kingdom of the wicked and sorrow is the chorus. When this man encountered Jesus; the Sun of Righteousness (Mal. 4:2 KJV) shone upon him and turned his life around. A different and superior power was exerted and joy overflowed his life. The Bible says, “When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.” (John 5:6-9 KJV).
Beloved, this is the nature of the eminent and imminent change one experiences when God steps into one’s life. He brings relieve and rejoicing into our lives; he frees us from the hardship and adversity of the wicked; He brings us into sabbath; signifying rest. About God, the Bible says, Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. (Psalm 147:5 KJV), God can make great change into our lives because He has power to overthrow the subordinate and inferior wickedness of the wicked to give one a new life of bliss. Let’s permit God to rule and direct our lives; rejoicing will be the result. Amen
