Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. (Psalm 150:6)
Praise is the most authentic proof of the knowledge of God. It clearly and keenly elucidates one’s knowledge of the attributes and character of God. Praise is both of affirmation and proclamation. Often we affirm the attributes of God but few proclaim God’s attributes,
Akin to a Sales Executive marketing the Product of his Company, one will expect the Sales Executive to “Praise” the Product sufficiently being a person expected to know the Product very well. The Sales Executive must be able to clearly convince prospective buyers by his good and accurate description of the latent attributes of the Product and its competency to cater for the intended use. When the Sales Executive sufficiently and accurately communicate the features of the Product, the prospective buyer will subsequently become a valued customer but should the Sales Executive be uninformed of the attributes of the Product, he cannot sufficiently “Praise” the Product to the interest of others.
The knowledge of the God is a necessary basis to sing His Praise otherwise the Praise will lack luster, color and exuberance. Praise essentially is proclaiming the attributes and character of God. Effective Praise elevates the Person and Power of God to those who do not know Him and causes them to trust God in return.
Consider the case of David in his challenge against Goliath; ahead of the contest, he “Praised” God when he said, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him…Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Sam. 17:34-37 NIV). Notice he recounted what he knew of God to calm every frightened person in the camp; The LORD… will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine. This is the effect of God’s knowledge in David’s life to confront the present challenge and turn others to trust God.
Whenever we Praise God effectively and sufficiently, others (who do not know God) must gain truth about God by what we proclaim about Him and must be comfortable to confidently turn to believe and rely on Him to get the result we project by our Praise of God. This is the intense purpose of Praise.
Nothing is gained if we merely tell God, He is good, kind, “all that’, etc. but what we say of God does not convince others about God; then no “Product” is sold and no value gained.
David said, “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.” (Psalm 34:1-2). By the Praise of David, others shall hear of it and be glad. Today, let’s be intentional to communicate (Praise) what we know of God that others may hear thereof, and be glad. Praise the LORD
