Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (John 16:13 KJV)
Truth plays a dominant role in the acquisition, management and maintenance of power. This notice and its context are crucial to the legality and legitimacy of power. Where power is obtained or exercised without the fabric of truth, it is deemed illicit, fake, illegal and void. Power without truth would only persist until truth is known or discovered. This is the bane and blight of the kingdom of satan; embroiled in lies and falsehood until the revelation of the Truth of the gospel of Christ.
Power is the ability to direct or effect a change; it is the means by which people or systems are governed or controlled; an overriding and dominant influence to control or subdue at will. It must however be understood that the legitimacy of power is derived from the Truth that constitutes it. Where the basis of power is false, it soon becomes illegitimate when true power comes to reign. This notion is well illustrated and understood by the cheaply overthrow of the reign or power of unclean (evil) spirits by the Lord Jesus Christ when He encounter these unclean spirits.
According to the Scriptures, “When evening came, they brought to Him (Jesus Christ) many who were under the power of demons; and He cast out the evil spirits with a word and restored to health all who were sick [exhibiting His authority as Messiah], (Matt. 8:16 KJV). This clearly highlights the transient term of fake or illegitimate power until true power takes reign. Legitimate power denominated by truth will always trump and overthrow wicked power which is denominated by falsehood. Jesus Christ, according to the Scriptures, “is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6 KJV) and He, being the Truth, His reign and power are legitimate, and the devils know it and so He cheaply casts out the evil spirits with a word. The power of the devil is illegitimate; derived from lies, whims and tricks. He is a vicious conman who arrogates power by lies and deception. Whenever a believer gains this truth and deploys the ascribed power of the Truth delivered through the knowledge of Jesus Christ, the devil must vacate his reign at instant. This is the need and importance of Believers knowing the truth. “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32 KJV). Notice the power to gain freedom from the tyrannical oppression of the devil is to gain knowledge of the Truth. Truth confers power that grants dominion and victory.
It is in this context of truth and power that we must pursue the baptism and indwelling of the Holy Spirit whom the Bible describes as the Spirit of Truth that we may grasp and connect with truth that confers legitimacy on our exercise of power overall devils. According to the Bible, Jesus said, “when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” (John 16:13 KJV). The Holy Spirit informs and empowers the Believer with accurate and truthful information that the devil cannot refute and thereby have the devils subject at the mention of the Name of Jesus Christ to the Believer. This is the victory of the Saints when by the Holy Spirit, we gain the notice of the Truth that confers power to dominate. Praise the Lord.
