And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Matt. 17:2 KJV
It is God’s plan for you and I to change, metamorphosize, evolve, advance, progress, etc. into a new being.
About the creation of Man, the Bible says, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Notice, the model was the image of God and, after His likeness. Man was to be a “picture” of God.
The crux and the intent were that God wanted a replica, model, imitation, or carbon copy of Himself on the earth, some gods of a sort. Man was intended to behave as “God” on the earth, reflecting His image and projecting His preferences on the earth. God wanted Man to represent Him on the earth, be found to be doing what God would do and in fact do it. Man was to be God’s agent in a perfect and absolute sense.
But Man changed. The change was not only catastrophic in absolute sense, but it was also diabolic, hellish, and devilish. To the discredit of Man, God said of Man’s heart, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” Jer. 17:9. This is the depth and scope of Man’s degradation and abysmal deprivation. Man fell.
It is from this bad fall that Man desperately needed redemption and for which Christ came that “after six days”, Jesus may have Man reinstated from the fall to the High Mountain apart and there changed again. This is the metaphor of the redemption story.
