Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore… (Eph. 6.13-14)
It is important that we own, understand, and manage our need to stand. The “fall of Man” is generally and very widely noted, recalled, and chorused. However, the port and content of that phrase is very scarcely or lightly understood or comprehended to pursue and assume a repositioning to Stand and be Standing.
The notion of the “fall of Man” would and should clearly inform of a status change in the legal, legitimacy and locus status of Man. The fall of Man was so abysmal and dreadful that the Bible would say, “The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So, the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart.” Gen. 6:5-6 NLT. In essence Man was no longer standing, upright, and sane. The fall of Man broke God’s heart; how dreadful!
The plight of the fallen nature and its attributes are the bane, blight and nuisance that have engulfed and characterized the pervasive rot and deterioration that belie and highlights our societal and communal values and judgments. This should concern everyone but only God took action to reposition Man.
It is for the repositioning of Man, the God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to author a Salvation plan to restore Man to Stand again, first by the forgiveness of Man’s sins, the cure of the sinful nature and the filling of God’s Holy Spirit to empower Man to live and walk in newness of life, if any Man would believe. The Bible puts this thus, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NLT.
It is the need to Stand therefore, and not fall again that Bible would enjoin “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then…Eph. 6:13-14 NIV.
Beloved, this is God’s great charge to us. We must not only do enough to stand, but we must also manage and maintain the Stand lest…as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Cor. 11:3 NIV. Stand therefore.
