And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah? 1 Kings 19:13 KJV
God delights to lead His people. This is an important characteristic of being God’s child or sheep. As a matter of definition, as many as are led by God are the children of the children of God. The Bible puts it; thus, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14 KJV)
Being led by God is key and necessary to achieving God’s plan for our lives and earn His delight in us. Human soul is subject to wanton manipulation of the wicked that if one is not actively dependent on the Spirit of God to provide continuous guidance, one may cheaply be fallen by the antics of the enemy. Consider for instance the treachery that fell Eve in the garden of Eden; about this trickery of the wicked, Paul was very concern for the Corinthian Saints when he said; “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” (2 Cor. 11:3 KJV}.
Now, Eve had been in the garden of Eden with the notice and caution by the Word of the Lord that; Of every tree of the garden, thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Gen. 2:16-17 KJV) until the devil came and led (convinced, directed, influenced, persuaded, etc.) her to do contrary to the Word of God saying; “…Ye shall not surely die: 5for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (Gen. 3:4-5 KJV). This is the antic of the devil to “make” God looked as being Man’s enemy. This is the tragic implication of being led away by the enemy.
Beloved; God is concerned about how we are led and thereby walk. About the deliverance of Israel from Egypt and their traverse through the wilderness, the Bible says of God; “…made his own people to go forth like sheep and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.” (Psalm 78:52-53 KJV).
Notice how God led His people; “…he led them on safely, so that they feared not”. This is the honor and the grandiose benefit of being led by God; being led on safely and without fear. In the referenced account of Elijah, Elijah had out of fear for the threat of Jezebel fled to hide himself; he was led away by fear (not God) such that when God would approach him; God asked him; what are you here because God knew He (God) did not lead him to where he was. One will sure be afraid if not led by God
Let us be cautious and careful to follow God’s lead; He will lead us safely and without fear.
